How to use
Cipro XR (Ciprofloxacin) should be taken orally, twice a day (morning and evening). It can be taken with or without food, as directed by your doctor. Unless told otherwise by your doctor, you should drink lots of fluid while taking this medication. Cipro XR (Ciprofloxacin) should not be taken with dairy products or calcium-enriched juice, as they could make the medication less effective. However, you can take Cipro XR (Ciprofloxacin) with dairy products as part of a meal, since food will help prevent the drug from binding to calcium.
Overdose
If you suspect an overdose of Cipro XR (Ciprofloxacin), contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
Missed dose
If you missed a dose, take the medication as soon as you remember. However, if it is near the time of your next dose, then skip your missed dose and resume your normal schedule. Do not attempt to double up a dosage.
Notes
While taking Cipro XR (Ciprofloxacin), you may feel dizzy or lightheaded or actually faint when getting up from a lying or sitting position. If getting up slowly doesn't help or if this problem continues, notify your doctor.
Storage

Tell your doctor immediately if you are pregnant or become pregnant during the treatment. Cipro XR (Ciprofloxacin) passes into breast milk and may harm a nursing baby. How does Cipro XR (Ciprofloxacin) work?
Cipro XR (Ciprofloxacin) works by entering the bacterial cells and inhibiting an enzyme called DNA-gyrase. This enzyme is responsible for replicating and repairing the bacterial DNA. By blocking this enzyme, Cipro XR (Ciprofloxacin) prevents the bacteria from reproducing or repairing themselves and this eventually kills them.
What is the recommended dosage?
For most infections the recommended oral dose for adults is 250-750 mg every 12 hours or 500-1000 mg every 24 hours.
